STANDING ROCK
After a very long approach starting on Island in the Sky we finally arrived at Standing Rock. It was all downhill. After the first ascent in 1962, Kor described it as kitty litter sandwiched between layers of rye-crisp. He is quoted: "Not because it's there, but because it might not be there much longer." Typical Kor. It must have cleaned up quite a bit by the time we climbed it in 2011 because it was pretty solid – or maybe we were expecting the worst. We may have done the last free ascent of Standing Rock - the crux 3rd pitch was crumbing as we climbed it and a key hold broke off as I followed the pitch. The hardest part of the day was the big hike back up to our car.
