CHIP CHACE - MILLS GLACIER

One of my favorite spots on Longs Peak is among the the massive boulders intruding from Mills Glacier near the base of the East face. The view of the East face from here is stunningly beautiful. Behind Chip is the obvious diagonal crack system transecting the Lower East face, appropriately called “The Diagonal Wall”. The rock on this thousand-foot wall is very different from the Diamond, and very similar to the glacier-polished granite in Yosemite Valley. The Diagonal Wall is largely overlooked because climbers are so fixated on the Diamond above, but there is some brilliant climbing to be found here.
