JULES VERNE ATTEMPT, 1973

Between about 1973 and 1975, the 3rd pitch of Jules Verne was the most coveted prize in Boulder climbing. It demanded a big run-out from the spot I’m at in the photo. That’s bomber gear, but then it’s a long ways until the hard climbing is over – well above of the top of this photo . Many of us tried it and we all backed down - as I did in this attempt - until Steve Wunsch finally led it in 1975.
