THE OBELISK

The Obelisk is an amazing feature that forms the extreme left edge of the Diamond. It’s about 250 feet tall and the last hundred feet or so is completely detached from the main wall. A superb three-pitch climb, The Obelisk Route, ascends it’s left side. In this photo I’m leading the first pitch, one of the more amazing pitches anywhere. The third pitch is the notorious Obelisk off-width first led by Chris Reveley in 1979 without cams (meaning very little protection). Today, with a big cam or two it’s pretty casual.
